Gameweek 3 Preview & Tips

After last weeks shocker, Man City face Hull in the early kick-off and will be sure to put things right this week in front a home crowd. Those of you who have Dzeko in your team can be rest assured he will make the starting XI with Negrado coming in for Aguero.

Whilst most managers have Zabaleta (27.3% of managers), Silva (18%), Dzeko (17.1%) and Yaya (16.6%) in their teams, I think we may have to look at less popular players to score some points if you are playing catchup.

I think we’ll be looking to get points here from Negrado (£9.3m) if he can start. Pellegrini has to give him a start in my opinion, especially against weaker opposition in front of a home crowd who will be wanting nothing less than goal rout. Negrado is also only in 2.6% of teams and to put this into perspective – more than double the amount of managers have Liverpool’s Lucas in their teams. When was the last time Lucas got bonus points? Anyone?

The other player to bring in if you have money in the bank is Jesus Navas (£9m) possibly taking out a Chelsea midfielder – he’s started both games for City and looks sharp. Well on for grabbing a couple of assists and possibly some rare bonus points for a midfielder.

Verdict: Take a gamble and bring in Negrado

With Chelsea & Aston Villa not playing this weekend we could see lots of managers take a 4 or 8 point hit. Ivanovic (30.7%), Benteke (29.1%) and Hazard (28.9%) are the 3 top Chelsea and Villa players selected. Do you risk taking them out only to bring them back in next week? Chelsea have Everton away and Villa have Newcastle at home so taking out Benteke might not be a wise move.

Verdict: Don’t transfer out Benteke

The bore draw last Monday between Man Utd and Chelsea has left this weekends game between Liverpool and Moyes’ boys a little less appealing. But with Sturridge on top form, Coutinho looking to get amongst the score sheet and the firepower of RvP the game does look like a corker on paper – but again, after Monday’s game it could turn out to be another game where no team wants to lose.

Let’s not also forget that half the Liverpool team were left crippled against the oldest team in the world Notts County in the midweek cup game. Toure & new signing Cissokho only have a 50% chance of playing this weekend which means we may see Skrtel rushed back from injury to face RvP and boys.

Verdict: Stock up on a Man Utd player as they face Crystal Palace at home next week

Elsewhere in the EPL, West Ham will be looking to keep 3 clean sheets in a row against Sparky’s boys Stoke City. Kenwyne Jones bagged a hat trick mid-week so he’ll be in contention for a starting place in the squad but the Hammers defence looks far too good for an inconsistent Stoke City team.

Norwich are at home to Southampton and this has got a tight affair written all over it, don’t expect much action in this game. One goal a piece if anything. Bonus points for defenders.

Newcastle are at home to a refreshed Fulham side with Darren Bent and Scott Parker as the new boys slotted into the spine of the team. I tipped Bent (£6.5m) last week as a decent player to bring in as he loves scoring against Arsenal and loves scoring on debuts….and he delivered a goal and a bonus point in the 31 minutes he played in.

Verdict: Jarvis on the cheap, Bent for the value

Finally, the big London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham. I think this game is going to be corker – unlike Monday nights game – there can only be one winner in this game.

I wouldn’t want to have any defenders from this game as I think it will be a goal fest. Those with Soldado can count on him tucking away another penalty and those with Walcott and/or Cazorla should be looking to get in on the points also. If you have all 3 then are you in for a corker!

Captain Picks: Dzeko, RvP (weaker Liverpool side), Pienaar

Differentiator Captain: Anelka
